Bug In Mac Chess

Running Mac OS Monterey 12.0.1, discovered a bug in the Chess app, during a Game Center match against another human.

My opening move was E2-E3.

My opponent then made their move, hopping their Queen over pawn, (D8 - D6)!??

I am 100% positive this an illegal move and I have no idea how the opponent has managed to do this. To confirm what I already knew, I started a new game and tried this move myself, the game would not let me make it.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Yes it's an illegal move. My only thought is, your opponent may have the type of game set to something other than "Regular". Or there's a bug in the Game Center matches.

You can send a bug report from the feedback page. You probably won't hear back from Apple but at least they'll be aware of it.

That's an interesting suggestion, and I forgot to mention this on the original post, but I specifically chose 'Regular' as the variant type when initialising the match. If it has somehow paired me with an opponent playing under another variant, there's certainly no indication of this anywhere on the screen.
