Macbook Pro M1 HDMI Audio Output Issue

I'm not getting any audio output from the HDMI port on my new Macbook Pro M1 (video is fine). This is despite HDMI showing as an audio option in System Preferences (and selecting it).

I've swapped out cables. I've tried it in Safe Mode and Test User mode. I'm hesitant to reinstall the Mac OS since there seem to be other threads indicating a similar issue and that it might be a bug that hasn't been addressed yet?

What am I missing?

Unfortunately, I've been through those steps (and also have spent time with Apple support - and did what I shared in the initial post). I'm hesitant to reinstall the OS without seeing a reason to show that it will address this specific situation (which, again, other threads seem to think is a bug?).
