Dropping battery capacity

Why is my battery capacity dropping, even though a almost never use it?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 12.2

All batteries experience "self discharge". Batteries are devices that utilize chemical reactions to generate an electric current; the chemicals simply "wear out" over time even if not used at all.


Even if the Mac is completely shut down, the circuits remain energized. Certain parts necessary to bring the unit to life are not powered however. Or not powered at a level sufficient to initiate start up.
