My Beats Fit Pro will not update to the newest firmware

I just purchased the Beats Fit Pro this afternoon and noticed that the firmware is outdated by at least two generations. Despite being plugged in and connected to my iPhone as instructed, the firmware has not updated. Can anyone help me with getting these updated to the newest firmware? Frustrating that Apple will not let me do this manually.
