Telstra 5G and MacBook issues

I have two MacBooks: a MacBook Air from 2018 or so and a Pro from December 2021 (so almost new).

I upgraded my last MacBook because it was struggling to achieve wifi speeds that my iPad can achieve on the same wifi, and that my partner’s non-Mac laptop reliably achieves.

The MacBook upgrade didn’t work so we shifted onto Telstra 5G to see if that solved the problem. It didn’t.

I know I am not the only person who has had this problem. I have applied the solutions previously recommended to other people experiencing the same issue, but have had no success.

It’s very annoying because these are expensive pieces of technology (much more expensive than my partner’s non-Mac laptop, which always seems to have fast internet when using the same Wifi and positioned in the same part of the house).

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities.

First, review Connect your Mac to the internet using Wi-Fi - Apple Support to make sure those settings are correct. Then, take a look at: If your Mac doesn't connect to the Internet over Wi-Fi - Apple Support. I'd also suggest that you read: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points - Apple Support.

If the issue persists, add a new Wi-Fi network location and test: How to use network locations on your Mac - Apple Support.

If Wi-Fi still isn't working right, Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support and test there. Also, Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac - Apple Support and see if any issues are flagged.

Cheers,

Jack
