When I delete emails in Mac Mail, they disappear briefly, then reappear. This started today without making any system changes. I restarted my computer, but the problem remained. I checked the mail on the server, and it behaved correctly. Any thoughts?

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes or more.
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
If still a problem...
Mail>Preferences>Accounts>Your Account>Mailbox Behaviors, what path is Trash Mailbox set to?
