iPod Shuffle not recognized

When I plug in my iPod Shuffle (4th Gen) my mac does not recognize it. I’ve tried both USB ports on my Macbook Air, and on my other MacBook. It starts charging, but does not show in Finder or iTunes. After a while (5 min), it stops charging. I’ve tried everything that I can think of, but nothing seems to work. My mac is running MacOS Catalina and my other Mac is running El Capitan.

If you haven't already, let's be sure that macOS is up-to-date. You can check manually at Apple menu () > System Preferences > Software Update

Keep your Mac up to date

If your Mac continues to not recognize your device, follow the steps in this article: If your computer doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Make sure to follow the steps under "Additional steps for Mac" in that article as well.

If you're still having an issue, we advise to contact Apple Support: Contact Apple Support
