Find My iPhone (No location found)

So my friend shared his location with me in the Find My iPhone app. The Find My iPhone app on his phone does find his own location:

Also the Find my iPhone app has been granted location access on his phone:

However, when he shares his location with me I get a notification on my phone saying that his location can't be found:

How can I resolve this? Both run iOS 15.4

iPhone 12 Pro Max, iOS 15

To begin with; the issue is with the Find My iPhone app and not the Maps app. Also my friend is able to find his own location in the Find My iPhone app. Also other apps (like Google Maps or Whatsapp) which use Location Services always work without any issue.

  • Location Services is on and the Find My iPhone app is set to While Using the App or Widgets.
  • Date ,Time and Timezone are correctly set and the 'Set Automatically' setting is enabled.
  • Cellular data and WiFi are both enabled. Also Internet is working when on WiFi and also working when on Cellular outside the house.
  • Closing and re-opening the Find My iPhone app does not solve the issue.
  • Restarting the iPhone didn't solve the issue.
  • We tried different locations. Even my friend being abroad (on different WiFi network and different Cellular provider) previous week didn't show any difference.
  • Also bluetooth is always enabled on this iPhone.

Greetings Duhuizer,

Your friend will want to begin by following the troubleshooting steps found here:

If Maps isn't working on your Apple device

If you can't find your current location on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
-Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services and make sure that Location Services is on and that Maps is set to While Using the App or Widgets.
-Make sure that you set the date, time, and time zone correctly on your device. Go to Settings > General > Date & Time. If possible, use Set Automatically.
-Make sure that cellular data or Wi-Fi is turned on, and that you have an active connection.
Restart the Maps app. Swipe up on the app and pause, then swipe up again on the app preview to close it. Then open Maps again.
-Restart your iPhoneiPad, or iPod touch.
-Try a different location or switch to a different Wi-Fi network.
Location Services uses GPS, Bluetooth, crowd-sourced Wi-Fi hotspots, and cellular towers to determine your location. Learn more about Location Services on your iOS device.

Take care.
