There was an article in Apple Insider today that explains, sort of, what is going on. It is a message coming on phones using Verizon as a carrier. Says you bill has been paid and here is a gift for you and then there is a link. I marked it as junk. The artilce says that if you click the link, it takes you to publication in Russia.
That is usually a different issue, the message does not come in from any phone number, not even your own, it comes in from an email address. I've received them on AT&T also. Many of this phishing emails come from Russia although a large number are also from the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Mexico, North and South Korea, and Iran.
I didn't say they would fix it immediately. There will need to be some changes in legislation, The FCC has a lot of work to do that will take time, and your cell service provider has yet another vote since you contacted them.
They’re spoofing the phone number. I’m not sure how wise it would be to block the number, hopefully someone can chime in and comment on that.
Contact your congressional representatives, the FCC and your cell service provider.
I did two of the three above. Cell provider was useless. FCC said ‘they are working on it’. Woke up to another text this morning
Guess you are correct, thanks - I reported to phone carrier as well. Thanks
