Universal Control Troubleshooting

I just started using Universal Control.

Except for one issue, I'm pretty impressed with it.

Well done Apple!

I was having trouble getting it to work at first, and here are the steps I used to remedy.

First, my setup.

I have a 2021 iPad Pro, running iPad OS 15.4.

I have a 2021 MBP running macOS Monterey 12.3, connected to an external display via a CalDigit T3 dock.

I also use a wired internet connection via the dock's ethernet port.

Therefore wifi is typically switched off, so as to ensure the MBP uses the faster wired internet connection.

And to round it out...a Logitech MX mouse and keyboard.

After following all the instructions with having Universal Control enabled on both devices, and all that jazz...

It wasn't working.

Going through the settings a few more times, made no difference.

So, it occurred to me to strip my setup down to just the MBP and iPad, both on wifi.

Then the magic happened...after giving Universal Control permission to accept incoming connections via popup message, of course. Important step. Don't deny this permission, you may not get another shot at it.

I was able to reconnect the dock and use my external display again.

BUT...I have to keep wifi enabled on the MPB.

Now, with external display connected, I can arrange the orientation of the iPad in display settings where a swipe to the right with my mouse pointer puts me on the iPad display. YAY!

But here in lies the rub.

While my Logitech mouse and keyboard does, for the most part, work on the iPad...

The scroll wheel does not.

Scrolling and other gestures work fine with the MPB trackpad.

I've looked for a setting that might cause the iPad to recognize the mouse's scroll wheel function, but can't find one.

So that I might just click and drag a scroll bar, I've also looked for a setting that would cause them to be always present on the iPad, but again, to no avail.

Hopefully Apple will address this soon, and allow more functionality with 3rd party mouse devices.
