Black videos regardless browser

Around 8-10 months ago, after some update, I wasn't able to play videos anymore on iOS. I have a iPhone 7 Plus, still working great otherwise. Reading online answer to this problem, someone suggested to disable some experimental features from GPU Process: Media. And it worked, for a while, but only on Safari, no other browsers.

After the last iOS update, the experimental features related to GPU Process are missing, so there's nothing I can disable. And videos are not working (black screen, sound works), regardless browser.

But I've also tried disabling every experimental feature and it doesn't work either.

Restarting the device doesn't work.

Resetting the device doesn't work.

There are probably others suffering the same, and there's no answer anywhere.

Youtube videos work great inside Youtube App.

Same with the Twitter App, Reddit App etc.

I don't want to throw away a great phone because I can't see videos in the browser. This is a really fast phone, with a lot of storage.

Hi designarti,

If you'd like videos to playback with more than just audio, these steps might help.

First, we're sure you've looked at this, but want do double-check. Do you have a VPN enabled in Settings? If so, please disable it and check for this ongoing issue. We ask because a VPN can potentially cause issues with connectivity and also your browser. You can double-check in Settings > General > VPN & Device Management.

Similarly, do you have any Safari extensions or content blockers installed? If so, let's again temporarily disable any extension and then try again.

Tap the Page Settings button on the left side of the search field, then tap Manage Extensions. Select or deselect each extension to turn that extension on or off.

There's more helpful info on extensions in Get extensions to customize Safari on iPhone.

If the issue remains after the steps above, can you list some of the websites this is happening with? This will help us to see that this is happening with multiple websites.

Lastly, is this happening on any other browser like Firefox, Chrome, or Opera? This will give us information about whether or not this is happening in just Safari or other browsers too.

We hope that helps with your question and take care!
