Suddenly lost 98% of my notes in 1 device while in others they remain

Hello!

I have an interesting problem with Notes:

I am on my Mac mini OS Monterey 12.01
I have an iPhone & iPad (as well as this Mac mini) all synced to iCloud sharing notes, images, etc

Suddenly without warning, I noticed that on Notes, I am seeing only the 3 entries of Notes when there should be hundreds. After checking iPad & iPhone to see that the notes were remaining in tact there, I've checked iCloud to see if the devices were all synced with Notes– they were.

I can't figure out what happened to Notes in the Mac mini, how do I reset it to retrieve the notes from iCloud without endangering wiping out the notes from iCloud?

I have found a solution to it after a few attempts. Here's how I did it:

As a backup measure, I made sure the Notes in other devices had it open
In the Mac mini, I've found the list of apps synced, un-checked the box for Notes & checked it – quitting and re-opening Notes from it
after a few attempts at this, Notes app started re-calibrating & loaded the contents lost once again

I can pass this incident off as a lapse in the sync from the Mac mini , still puzzled how the issue was brought on to start with...
