Timer app - no longer stops and locks iPhone

Hi,

The built in timer app on my iPhone used to stop music, podcasts, Apple TV and other apps after the preset amount of time. It no longer does this. Was there an upgrade or change in the design of this functionality? I would like to use it and stop all active apps after 20 minutes.
