iPad Air and second generation pencil

I was wondering if when you charge the second generation Apple Pencil along the top like the iPad pros or if I plug it into the port at the bottom?

If this is an iPad Air 10.9 inch screen, 4th or 5th generation, an Pencil 2nd gen charges along the the long, top side where there are two Pencil 2 charge dots along that long, top edge that the flat side of the Pencil magnetically connects to.
