Relaunch Safari holding the Shift key down.

Clear all text in Smart Search Field.

Click the magnifying glass icon in the left most part of the field.

Choose another search engine.

DuckDuckGo is one of the search engines installed by Apple by default.

If you have installed an extension, remove the extension.

Safari > Preferences > Extensions
