Universal Control Window Arrangement Doesn't Persist

When I try to arrange the displays to match my setup (iPad below main monitor, laptop screen on the left), the iPad display will not stay were I put it. After dragging it into position under my main monitor, it jumps back to where it started on the lower right corner after a couple of seconds. Any idea how to fix this?

Hi there geekxx,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. Let's follow some guidance within the resource you came to us from: Universal Control: Use a single keyboard and mouse between Mac and iPad

  • "Make sure that your devices are near each other—ideally within 1 meter (3 feet).
  • Put your devices to sleep, then wake them up.
  • Turn off Universal Control on each device, then restart each device and turn Universal Control back on."

Let us know the outcome, and we can go from there.

Best regards!

I did some fiddling around - changing which display was main display and that did nothing but - I did something that "fixed" it - I changed the resolution of the display to the left (the larger display) to be smaller than the display on the right - once I did that I could set the iPad to be arranged below the display on the right - but now I can't place the iPad below the display on the left in the arrange pane. I don't know why this is though, it could be some sort of defect?

Also when I change the resolutions of the monitors in the displays setting pane iPad jumps beneath whichever display has a larger resolution. Weird.

*edit - I am also using DisplayLink for the display to the left which may somehow impact this. So that display is some sort of RemoteDesktop hack built by DisplayLink.
