In order to check your shared location settings in Messages, follow these steps:

"Share your location in the Messages app

1. Open the Messages app on your iPhone and select a message.
2. Select the name of the person at the top of the conversation. 
3. Choose the information icon .
4. Select Send My Current Location. Your recipient will see your location on the map. Or choose Share My Location. Then choose the length of time that you want to share your location for."

If you see that your location is shared, you can choose to stop sharing location. If it is sending your current location only when this happens, check to be sure your screen is locked when it occurs.
