Apple Watch GPS Inaccurate

I rarely take my iPhone with me while running.

About half the time I go for a run, my Watch 7’s first mile distance is inaccurate. Apparently the watch is trying to use the iPhone’s GPS, which has been left in my car or apartment.

Why doesn’t Apple give users the option to disallow the Watch from using the iPhone GPS? I haven’t regularly brought an iPhone with me on runs since the first generation Apple Watch, that was bc the fist gen did not have GPS in the watch.

This unnecessary tethering to the iPhone’s GPS usually causes my runs to be off by .2 to a quarter of a mile!
