Magic keyboard not showing charging status

I just bought a Magic Keyboard and I noticed something strange when I looked in the Bluetooth menu bar bar dropdown to make sure it was charging. When they keyboard is plugged in to charge, it shows as greyed out and does not show the battery level. However, when I unplug it I see that information. I also just bought a Magic Trackpad and it doesn't have this problem. Here are two screenshots to illustrate:

Any thoughts? I wasn't sure what topic to put this under, since I didn't see one for accessories.
