Flashing Question Mark

My computer was flashing a question mark and wouldn't turn on, but two months later I turned it on just for a laugh and it actually worked. However, I am worried that it rebooted with a virus, because it had been having problems beforehand (the battery drained quickly, and my browser kept jumping to random web pages, both signs of virus activity or malicious software). Is this a possibility?
