Why are the thumbnails for .mov files only showing up for the files with the "E" prefix?

I am copying photos from my iPhone SE 2nd Gen. to my Windows 11 PC.

These are the video parts of live photos.

Does Photos overwrite existing files when exporting a photo with the same file name? I usually export all my favorite photos from "Photos" to various folders on my hard disk so I can look at them as screen savers etc. However, when my iPhone "rolls over" from IMG_9999.jpg to IMG_0001.jpg, what happens when I save a photo which has a file name that already exists in that folder? I have never seen a warning (file name exists) or the creation of a "version number" (like many other Mac programs do, e.g. Mail when exporting files). I'm starting to fear the worst: That "Photos" simply overwrites the old files without warning. CAN THAT BE POSSIBLE?

.mov files not playing in Photos Why are all my .mov files not playing in Photos on my newly purchased iMac May 3, 2023. However, all videos do play on my iPhone. (Both iPhone and iMac devices are synching ON.)

Exporting photos from the MacOS Photos app as .heic Hello I recently decided to upload some photos from my iPhone XR(iOS 17) to my MacBook(MacOS 10.15). I connected the iPhone with a cable and imported them using the Photos app on the MacBook. All photos are Live and in the .heic format When I import them to Photos on the MacBook they appear as expected - Live photos, .heic files When I try to export them from Photos however is where the problem happens. If I drag and drop or export one photo it gets exported as .jpeg If I export unmodified original it get exported as 2 files - a .jpeg and a video file How do I get the original raw .heic files that I imported in Photos or am I just stuck with viewing them in the Photos app if I want the to be Live photos?

Perhaps the two sets of files are using a slightly different codec such that the Windows thumbnail generator handles them differently. Did you make any edits on your phone? Perhaps the E stands for edit, and the process adds in a tag with a thumbnail which otherwise isn't there.
