How do I get rid of the flashing question mark when starting up? Will an upgrade to Monterey fix this issue?

Upgrading to a newer version of macOS will not solve the flashing Question Mark issue and may even make a bad situation even worse.
Suggest following the previous posters advice to remedy the underlying issue before considering any type of an upGrade.
Edited: content was already covered in previous link I posted.
My hard drive had to be replaced.......that was the issue. Thanks for your help !
