Changing payment with expired card

The card I have on my apple account expired. It will not let me delete it, or just update it to the new card, all new numbers. How do I fix this? I’ve already tried the suggestions found when I searched here.

iPhone SE, iOS 15

You need to add the new card first, then you can delete the old one.
