Kids messenger & parental controls

I want my kids time limited on Facebook but I’d like kids messenger to be on all the time as they use it to communicate with their older siblings that have moved out. How do I do this as I only see FB listed in the apps. Yet if it’s adult messenger they are separate apps that show up?

Hi 72Cheryl,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. On an iOS device, Facebook and Facebook Messenger are two separate apps. If you scroll down the app list, the messaging app is listed as "Messenger", and the icon differs from the normal Facebook icon. So when setting up parental controls, you can limit Facebook without affecting the Messenger app. The steps to do so are listed here:

Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Let us know if you have any questions.

We hope this helps you.

72Cheryl,

If Messenger Kids doesn't show up in Screen Time, we'd recommend reaching out to Facebook Support for additional support.

Facebook does appear to have options within the app itself for limitations or restrictions, however they'd be the best point of contact for restricting Facebook the app vs the kid friendly messenger app.

You can see options to contact Facebook here:

Cheers!
