Lost contacts

i merged my contacts then lost many of them. I’m on OS 15.3.1, only use iCloud and when I went to restore from the oldest back up, still has this problem. Names/numbers aren’t in contacts, but if I go to an old text, their name appears, I’ll send new text, then it only shows their number.

I noticed this was never answered and convo kept going in circles with no solution.

anyone? Thanks!

Hello Bananas805,

We recommend to restore your contacts using these steps. Check out these steps on how to perform the task and see if that matches up with the steps you performed earlier in restoring your contacts:

  1. On iCloud.com, go to Account Settings, then click Restore Contacts in the Advanced section.
  2. Available versions are listed by the date and time they were archived.
  3. To the right of the version you want to restore, click Restore.
  4. There may be more versions than can be displayed. Scroll to see them all.
  5. Note: Wait until iCloud finishes restoring your contacts before you change them. During the restore process, any changes you make aren’t saved.

Hey there Bananas805,

While we're unable to see past conversations regarding this issue, we wanted to explain that contacts aren't included in an iCloud backup if you have iCloud set to sync with Contacts.

Moving forward with the issue of those contacts missing from the Contacts app, but still showing the name in old text messages, we agree that this is unexpected behavior.

As you mentioned trying the steps in the link provided earlier, we recommend contacting Apple next: Get Support

Cheers!

As stated in my OP, I did follow those instructions, still lost contacts, even new ones, only way to retrieve is to go to an old text…

this exact back and forth was in previous conversations.

Apple has lost hundreds of my contacts since the latest update, the restore contacts only goes back to what, 5 backups, even still, contacts lost.

does anyone have an actual solution besides replies telling you to do something you’ve already done?

thanks!

This is exactly the back and forth in previous community/conversations…

The “restore contacts” tells you to do what you’re telling me to do, but now you’re saying iCloud doesn’t “include contacts?”

what a help, thanks so much.

NONE of the links ACTUALLY help you restore missing contacts.

to those who are reading this and experiencing the exact same “solutions” which does not “restore contacts” welcome to the rabbit hole of worthless help… this community board must not be answered by IT peeps working for Apple, or they won’t admit the failure of their latest update. It should say “don’t update if you pay for iCloud to save info, cause it actually doesn’t”
