Strange iPhone behavior

This is SO bizarre! I really hope someone can help me. I was looking to respond to a friend, Amy, and I scrolled in my recent texts to reply to her. I could not find her thread for the life of me. I finally realized that the thread for her was renamed to myself. So bizarre! (I sometimes send myself a funny video or something so I have my own thread.) So in order for my message to go to her, I had to go into that contact and rename it to her again and type in her phone number and remove my number. But, now, sadly, all of the texts to me are nowhere to be found. Also, my phone thinks I am her so when I auto type to fill in my name, her name pops up. What is happening?

After reading your post I came to understand a few things.

When you remove your name from the list of contacts the thread never goes missing. The thread remains but under your Phone Number.

Thread always remains under your message app...

  1. Unless you delete them
  2. Unless your Settings > Messages > Keep Messages > [Selected as 30 Days or 1 Year instead of Always.]
