M1 pro killing SSDs

16" 3 month old M1 pro seems to be going to sleep unexpectedly and damaging external drives - I get a loud "pop" noise through my audio interface and an instant BIG BIG bunch of Disk not ejected properly messages when I wake it back up; and the Battery Command don;'t go to

sleep does not seem to work, If the powered hub with external drives is connected. All those messages and possibly more as they trailed off the page came at the same time after an unexpected sleep. A visit to the genius store and multiple phone calls have gotten me nowhere with this horror story.

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 12.3

Some drives that are bus-powered tolerate the Bus power interruption when the Mac sleeps. Others do not.

I recommend you obtain external power for the external drives you have, or obtain drives that do not have this sensitivity.

Your computer does not appear to be defective.

in the meantime disconnect those externals before sleeping MBPro. Wait for the next software update above 12..3.1 hopefully will be good to you.

these are all on a powered hub - I'm not a newb and when I say drives were killed 2 are actually dead $600+. down the drain and I have used the same setup with older Macs for 3 years and am a 30+ year professional Mac user who has never seen such a weird situation - nor has this been the only issue but definitely the worst. EVER.

I believe in the power of one individual to make things better, unfortunately through 4 or 5 calls, being transferred to a supervisor 3 times, and a visit to the genius store where the computer was wiped, that has not happened for me. Please don't waste anymore of your time on this Grant.

it is set to never sleep already so Ithe sleep is unexpected - thanks but that advice won't cut it - instead I won't use my $4300 paperweight until I get a real solution.

I have external power for all the drives and have spent many hours on the phone with apple care and even some supervisors and they have yet to give me an answer
