What do I do about a phone with water damage? i need to recover the phone number to return it to its owner. It's an iPhone 10s with no visible cracks or scuffs. All iv'e gotten out of it was a dead battery sign and purple and green lines on the display. I would like to find the owner by looking on iTunes, but it dosen't pop up anywhere. What can i do to see it on iTunes, and if i can't than what can I do to fix it/ find the owner?
It might be possible to have a new battery installed to see if it turns on, but it's not really worth it. If damage is worse than just a borked battery, it might also require specialized repair. Then it will leave you with a device where you don't know the passcode in order to identify the user.
That being said, have checked to see if there's a SIM card? In that case the carrier might have a means to identify the owner and return it. It might still be useful to the original owner if there's data that hasn't been backed up, but that would be up to the owner to decide if it's worth repairing.

There should be a number printed on the SIM card, as well as the name of the carrier. Then perhaps find a contact info for the carrier and ask if there's any means for it to be returned to the owner.

The damage is very likely catastrophic and beyond repair. Start here.
Turn it into the police or recycle it responsibly.
Apple will not give you any information on the owner.

Wait, how do I find the owner of the SIM card again? I tried importing the contacts on my phone to find someone to contact, but nothing happened. Sorry, Im new to this.
