Shortcut to calculate tip works differently on Apple Watch and HomePod(s)

I have a shortcut to calculate a tip amount based on pre-sales-tax amount. On the Mac, iPad, and iPhone, it works as expected. On the Watch and the HomePod(s), it produces erroneous results.

Here is some sample input:

  • total check $10.60 (expressed as 10.6)
  • tax rate 6% (expressed as 6)
  • tip percentage 15% (chosen from menu)
  • results: tip is $1.50 and total is $12.10

On the Watch and HomePod(s), the results are different. The tip is computed as $1.44 and the total is $12.04. Furthermore, the shortcut asks for the "total check" twice, and not in a row.

On the Mac, iPad, and iPhone, it doesn't matter whether I run the shortcut from the keyboard or through Siri. It works correctly both ways. On the Watch and HomePod(s), I use voice command, of course.

All devices are up-to-date with the latest version(s) of their respective operating systems.

Hello joel6653_1,

Have you had a chance to try deleting and re-creating the shortcut in question, to see if that helps? Are you experiencing similar issues with the HomePod and Apple Watch not voicing the expected output for other shortcuts?

If you haven't yet, it may help to try restarting both of the affected devices.

If you continue to have issues, you may also try following up with Apple Support for a deeper investigation: Get Support

Cheers.

I had already tried making a duplicate shortcut like the original, which also did not work. This shortcut is the only one I have that does a computation. The others perform other kinds of actions. I had also already tried restarting one of the HomePods, to no avail. I did not restart the watch manually, but it has since then gone through an os update cycle, which iirc does a reboot. I'm testing the HomePod(s) in this scenario just for kicks. The iPhone and the watch are the important places for this to work, as it is intended to be used while I'm dining out.
