No mac OS X Install

I did APFS format this 2011 iMac, since then it gives me hard time to install any mac OS X. There is only Folder with Question mark etc. I did try every thing! Like: Command+R, Shift Command+R, option+command+R, Alt, S. On any mac Os x, it wouldn't install. Wireless+Lan, I've tried any thing??? No go soon just for pleasure I'll break it, with a sledge hammer..

Because that vintage iMac doesn't require APFS format to reinstall its last possible macOS

version the issue with the file system started, before your attempt to get an installer(?)

Seems to me that I'd read where HFS+ (journaled) does the job, well. ~ Any later format would be

supplied by those systems if needed ~ when their downloadable installers start to install a newer

macOS from online servers.

If your Mac starts up to a question mark - Apple Support

//support.apple.com/en-us/HT204323

"A folder with a flashing question mark means that your startup disk is

no longer available or doesn't contain a working Mac operating system."

  1. If the Question Mark appears only momentarily before your Mac starts up normally:Reset NVRAM.
  2. Make sure that your preferred startup disk is selected in Startup Disk preferences.

If the question mark persists, follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the power button on your Mac for up to 10 seconds, until your Mac turns off.
  2. Turn on your Mac and immediately press and hold Command (⌘) and R to start up from macOS Recovery.
  3. While in macOS Recovery, use Disk Utility to repair your startup disk.
  4. If Disk Utility found no errors or repaired all errors, reinstall macOS.
  5. If you still need help, please contact Apple Support.

(Probably needs to be erased/reformatted & macOS Recovery run

as suggested in the above instruction link, about Question marks.)

A 2011 iMac cannot run newest macOS (formerly known as Mac OS X) available online.

There's a few older ones that still are supported; see versions in this Support page:

Hi Mr. Shaffer, first it was on High Sierra. Some how it became OS X Lion. And I did format after the Internet recovery.

On HFS+ (journaled). But still I have a Folder with question mark? I think, I really need help from somebody who knows better than I do. Because I did all possible thing. And I use since many years for production. I am along time musicians of David Bowie Well it looks like maybe hard disk is faulty, there for I have just checked it, it shows all O.K.

Thx a lot..

While I noted the errors (ie: Lion could've have shipped with 2011 Mac)

those were not included in an explanation of path forward from there.

So then, are you set to go? Ot does the hard disk drive require reformat

with original HFS+ journaled, in Disk Utility? (As surmised earlier.)

If your Mac had been running El Capitan or Sierra, an ability to start

and run may exist in a 'recovery partition' on the hard drive. The key

options on startup, may allow one to start into 'Internet Recovery'.

And rotational drives have been known to fail after some time.

If you get a replacement, it would need to be same as Apple's.

..Instructions on how to deal with 'Question Mark' folder are covered..

Anyway, there are some cards on the table, but I'm not a gambler.
