iPad Air 4 will not sleep

there is no external cover, on/off is switched and the screen turns back on almost immediately. Battery dies overnight.

Hello HokuKaii, Have you checked your settings? Settings > Display & Brightness > Choose a Auto Lock Time NOT NEVER.
