Apple TV 4K with Pioneer AVR

Recently purchased a Pioneer VSX-LX305 receiver and have had no issues (5.1 in main room, and a second zone for outdoor speakers). Just added a 4K Apple TV and am having some issues upon first hookup.

When I first powered up the Apple TV, I had no picture on the screen. I took the Apple TV to another tv in the house and was able to go through initial setup without any issues. I went back to the Pioneer, hooked everything back in, and only have sound, and no picture. I can only tell I have sound due to the familiar clicking sound of the Siri remote. All other peripherals work as normal through the AVR.

Any ideas?

You need to use to connection on the receiver where the arrow is pointing to your TV, not the output to the left of it. Also ensure the Pioneer setup shows the connection is using the eARC/ARC output. This is how my Onkyo is setup and works 100% AOK. If you continue to have a problem you need to contact Pioneer's support. Also, ensure the Pioneer's firmware is up-to-date.

You can always troubleshoot the Apple TV by connecting it directly to the TV, if it works that points the finger at your cables or the receiver.

Everything via 4K HDMI cables. Pretty simple setup. Apple TV via HDMI into the STRM BOX input on the Pioneer (tried every other available input as well), and the existing HDMI out from the Pioneer to a Sony 65” 4K television. DIRECTV box works fine through the receiver, as do airplay, Bluetooth, etc.

Also, when I took the Apple TV into the other room to setup, it was same series of Sony TV, just a slightly smaller screen. No issues there. No receiver on that tv, just a Sony soundbar.
