Is there a way to search for ‘content created?’
if I do date created it comes up as the date when it was added to my computer. Content created is when the actual picture/file was created. For example I added photos to finder (not using photos app) and then sorted by date created. The content created date on the metadata is different than the date created. I hope this makes sense…

You could use 3rd party tools (GraphicConverter, Better Finder rename, ExifTool etc) to copy the content created "ExifIFD:DateTimeOriginal" metadata to file creation and modification dates (and optionally also to the filename). I copy that date to all possible metadata tags.
