Transitons After Final Cut Pro 10.6.2 Update

Hi, after the Final Cut Pro 10.6.2. update, I noticed any time I try to add a transition to a layered video track, nothing seems to add. Transitions will only seem to work if I add them to the primary track. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

I'd like to add that Effects seem to work on the layered tracks. But if I wanted to use, say, Cross Dissolve or Fade In/Out, that won't work unless it's on the primary track. Prior to the update, that wasn't the case.

You can't drag and drop transitions onto connected clips. The behavior has changed in the application. Transitions have to be applied to selected clips or edit points by double clicking the transition in the browser, or by using a keyboard shortcut for the default transition.

It does not seem that you can use the old method of dragging and dropping a transition onto a secondary clip (a clip above the main timeline - like you have circled in your screen shot). However, if you click on that clip you wish to apply your transition to you should see a yellow outline around that clip to indicate that you have it selected. Then just double click on the transition you wish to apply to that clip - don't drag and drop - just double click. You should see the transition applied to the start and end of your clip. I find that this is easier and faster than the drag and drop method. But it took some time to get used to it.

Yes, dragging the transition no longer works. In 10.6.1 when you drag the transition the selected clip becomes deselected. You could just drag the transition to then unselected clip. It would apply the transition to both ends of the clip. Now you have to select the clip and double click the transition in the browser to apply it to both ends, or select an edit point to apply it to just that edit.

Yeah, basically I have added images as secondary storylines and want to blend them in. Adding transitions does not work.

But did you? Select the connected images, press Command-G to turn them into a secondary storyline; still the transitions do not work?

ny other workaround solutions? Need to finish a video today and having no transitions lowers the overall quality of the video :(.

Here is another workaround - only try this is if the one above does not work: select the connected images and press Option-G to make a compound clip. Double-click the compound clip to open it in its own timeline. Add the transitions there. Press < next to the time indicator above the timeline to return to the project.

I have had this issue as well since the update. I am also having an issue with mChannel Clean Transitions but I assume that it is just not yet configured to work with the new update. As for stock plug ins the only work around I have found is if you add the transition to a clip in your main timeline and then copy and paste the transition to where it is you want the clip. Super frustrating and I hope Apple and MotionVFX get on fixing these issues ASAP as I use them every single day for my production work.

I have this exact problem since installing 10.6.2. Transitions will only work now in the primary storyline - and will not apply to any clips (regardless of if they are movies, images, text, etc) to anything in the upper layers of the project. It used to work fine for two years, no suddenly stopped! I tried uninstalling and re-installing FCPX 10.6.2 and still the same problem! Transitions dont work in FCPX 10.6.2 - which basically makes the software unfit for purpose as a video editor. :(

Transitions work absolutely as before on connected clips in 10.6.2. You do not need to first make a secondary storyline; it’s made automatically when the transition is created. You must have to have something selected so the application knows where to put the transition. You can select a clip or an edit point. You can use a keyboard shortcut or double click a transition in the Transitions browser.
