Macbook air 2017 not turning on

My macbook air 2017 won’t turn. When I plug in the charger, the green/orange light is also not working. I took it to the nearest authorised service provider and they said the problem is with main logic board an battery. They says it would cost ₹45000 for the service. I bought the Mac for ₹60000.

Had anyone else faced the same issue? Would taking it to another service center help?

Guys please help!

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.15

Hi ajvad,

Welcome to the Apple Community.

Wondering if you have tried borrowing another charger to check whether it may be your charger that is not working.

However, if the main logic board and battery truly do need attention, then that may be necessary.

It never hurts to get a second opinion.

If the MagSafe LED does not light, then the issue could be with the charger, or the Magsafe port on the laptop which can become dirty or can have a very small thin piece of metal stuck to the magnet (many times a staple gets stuck and jammed into the edge as well so look carefully as it doesn't take much to prevent the charger from seating fully in the port). Many times the I/O Board & I/O Flex Cable become damaged and cause this problem as well. However, a bad Logic Board is also a very real possibility. Even the battery cannot be fully ruled out, but is less likely when the Magsafe LED does not light.

Unfortunately except for examining the charger, Magsafe port, and possibly disconnecting the battery there isn't much that can be done to confirm the problem without access to spare parts. In theory an AASP should have eliminated all the small parts that could possibly cause the issue. The only concerning item in their estimate is knowing the battery is bad if the Logic Board is preventing the laptop from powering on. Maybe they tested the battery with another laptop, otherwise there is no way to know the battery's condition unless the battery is swollen or damaged.

The MBAirs we repair tend to be highly abused so it is very hard to judge whether the high number of Logic Board power failures we have seen on the 2013 - 2017 MBAirs (all these are basically the same) are due to the abuse these laptops have suffered or whether these Logic Boards are just more prone to failure as they get older. It does not surprise me that the Logic Board may be bad with a power issue.
