What does Apple Dictionary App send to Wikipedia's servers?

I selected 8KB of text which my Macbook's sensitive trackpad eagerly "Looked up" in the native Apple Dictionary app. This selection was immediately applied to the search query box, NOT incrementally typed.

The Dictionary app opts all users by default into passing along their queries online to Wikipedia.

The result for this large query was "No results found" so my question is, was the ENTIRE 8KB query actually passed along from Apple's Dictionary app to Wikipedia's servers?

Did you try making changes to Dictionary>Preferences ?

Select the dictionary you want to use and drag them in your preferred order...

My question is regarding how queries get sent over Dictionary's API call to Wikipedia.

The Dictionary app allows Wikipedia to be removed as a source, but unfortunately users are opted in by default. This means that users who don't use the Dictionary app are at risk of having their clipboard sent over the API.

I hope that helps clear up any misunderstanding. Thank you.

Right.

If you want to drill down on dictionary API the Developers forum may be a place to start.
