I have the tone I want as an m4r file that is 26 seconds long. I have synced my phone nd tried dragging and dropping in the general tab, neither worked. i have iOS 15.3 on my XS phone and monterey 12.3.1 on my iMac

Go to -> Finder -> your home folder -> Music -> iTunes -> iTunes Media -> Tones folder.

If there is not a Tones folder, then create a Tones folder.

Place the ringtone in that folder.

Drag the ringtone from the Tones folder to iPhone in iTunes.

When you see a green-plus sign, let it go.
