What Email Clients Can Be Used with an iCloud Custom Email Domain?

Are there any restrictions on the email client that can be used with an iCloud custom email domain?

In other words, is Apple’s Mail.app the only client that can be used with an iCloud custom email domain?

Again, this does NOT address my question, which is whether Mail.app is required to use iCloud custom domains.

One of the pages you referred me to has a section for setting up iCloud Mail on a Windows computer, which implies that Mail.app is NOT required for iCloud Mail.

Moreover, this Apple support article gives the technical settings for connecting any email client to iCloud Mail. It concludes with guidance using an “app-specific password” that refers to “any other third-party mail client” thereby implying again that Mail.app is NOT required for iCloud Mail.

So, again, is there anything about iCloud custom domains that requires the use of Mail.app?

Hi Nello Lucchesi,

The guide page here may help clarify the information. Set up an existing domain with iCloud Mail

The above is included in the last steps from the article here Add a custom email domain for iCloud Mail on iCloud.com and quoted below.

"Step 3: Set up the domain

  1. Follow the onscreen instructions to finish setting up your domain. Depending on the domain, you may be prompted to sign in to your domain registrar to automatically update your records. Otherwise, you need to manually update your DNS records. For information on how to update your MX, TXT, and CNAME records, see the Apple Support article Set up an existing domain with iCloud Mail.
  2. Choose a default email address to use when you send iCloud mail. You can change this at any time in Mail preferences. See Choose a default email address to send mail from on iCloud.com."

If you have any errors or issues setting up your domain contact Apple Support directly for additional details and possible restrictions.
