Numbers help

Is there a way to drag and drop a cell without grabbing the cell and cell borders? I'm trying to drag and drop from one table to another but it keeps grabbing the borders, i just need the text inside to drop into a cell on another table without messing with any of the borders. Thanks for the help!

Use "Copy" -> "Paste and match Style"

All 'Copy' actions in Numbers copy both the content and the Style of the copied item.

Using the Copy menu item in the Edit menu, or selecting the item and pressing command-C immediately places the copied content and style on the Clipboard.

Select and Drag picks up the content and style of the selected item, and places that in memory, but does not transfer it to the Clipboard. Dropping that data into a new cell drops both the content and the style into the cell on which the pointer is placed.

Drag and Drop has no options regarding what is picked up, or what is dropped.

Copy to the clipboard offers the choice of copying both content and format OR (by adding option to the keystroke combination) of copying or Pasting only the format, but not the content.

Pasting from the clipboard via the Edit menu offers two options:

  • Paste and Match Style pastes the data, which adopts the style settings previously set in the receiving cell. (This is the one that will give the result you want.)
  • Paste Formula Result pastes the result of the formula in the cell that was copied, but does not include the formula in the paste.

Keystroke combination shortcuts are listed beside the menu choices for all three Paste options.)

Barry

I don't know of a way with drag and drop (though there might be one) but if the cell contains text you can do it with Cut (or Copy) then Paste and Match Style (in the Edit menu or use the keyboard shortcut). You could also double click the cell then Command A to select the text then Paste it into another cell. However, with either method, if the cell was referenced in a formula the reference won't move like it would with drag and drop.
