M1 Recovery Mode latest OS
with Intel Macs you could start your mac with option+cmt+r to start recovery and install latest MacOS Version. is there a way to do this with a M1 Mac

FWIW, if you have erased the drive for some reason, install Big Sur then upgrade to Monterey.
when BigSur is on the mac an i start the recovery, i can not choose to directly install Monterey. It will install BigSur
Recovery Mode reinstalls whatever version of macOS you are running.
While in normal boot, open System Preferences > Software Update.
thanks, that's how i do it at the moment.
with intel Macs you could install the newest available version direct from recovery mode.
