I need to unlock an iPhone from a carrier, then put in a new SIM card from my new carrier. It’s the same phone just a different carrier. How do I save all my old information without losing it to the new carrier/sim? Just back it up to the Cloud?! I’m just guessing. Then how do I get it back on my phone again with the new sim? Sorry, I’ve just never done any of this before. The new carrier is Xfinity if it makes a difference. Thanks so much!

When you get it unlocked simply put in the new SIM then...
Settings, Messages, Turn off iMessage
Settings, Face Time, Turn off Face Time
Restart the phone.

ONLY the carrier can unlock it whatever the video cranks say.
Have you checked it is in fact locked to the old carrier? When you put in the new SIM do you get a SIM unsupported or SIM invalid message?
Does it show SIM restrictions in Settings, General, About?
The iPhone does not store any data at all on the SIM. The SIM is only used to connect to your cellular carrier.
