Redeeming an Apple gift card for app purchases

Is it possible to have the billing corrected from a credit card to an Apple gift card for in app purchases that have already been made? Why was my card charged when I had an activated gift card?

I was charged for an in-app purchase but i had entered a apple gift card Hi, a while back i received an apple gift card as a gift and never used it. Fast forward to the other day and i entered it into the app store and made an in-app purchase for 15$ since the card had 25$. But I was charged to my credit card instead of the gift card and now im upset because i wouldve never done that if it wasnt for the card. Before I made the in-app purchase I even looked up online if this would happen and it said as long as I didnt spend anything on the card it would be fine.
