How can I get complete app names?

my iPhone often deletes a number of apps because I haven't been using them. However the icon is still on the screen. Underneath, there is the download logo (a cloud with an arrow downwards), and the first 5 letters of the app name.

The trouble is that most of the time I don't know what the app is as the first five letters are not enough. If I want to find out what it is I have to download it completely so I get the full name.

Is there any way I can adjust this behaviour so that I can get the full name from the start, or am I stuck with it?

Hello TimK,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. This sounds like your apps are being offloaded to free up storage space on the iPhone. Offloading apps creates space on your device, but keeps the app data. There is no way to change the icon appearance on the Home Screen. However, you can go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage, and scroll down the list of apps. The offloaded apps will appear with a cloud and download arrow, but will display the complete app name. This will keep you from having to download the app just to see the name.
