Ipod 5 shows as connected, but icon doesn't show up in iTunes.

My iPod 5 shows as connected, but the iPod icon doesn't show up in iTunes, so I can't put anything on my iPod. This happened after I took my computer into the shop so they could clean it up.

I have to hit the "disconnect" button before I disconnect the iPod.

Yes, I restarted and refreshed my iPod.

Yes, I looked at all the relevant articles. Please don't direct me to the usual suspects. I've read them.

Yes, I tried to "repair" iTunes.

Yes, I turned the computer on and off. Several times.

Yes, the driver and software is up to date.

Any thoughts? This is really annoying.

Thanks!

Hi,

Well, I finally got the problem solved, but don't know how.

Yesterday I plugged in my iPod, as I had several times before. I was ready to go through the odious task of uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes if nothing happened.

However this time I got a message that said "The software required with communicating with the iPod is not installed." It had an install option, which I clicked. Then the iPod icon showed up.

I have no idea why this message didn't come up the first dozen times I plugged in the iPod.

Perhaps Apple should have an option to just download this particular software. My iTunes worked fine except for the communicating with my iPod. Uninstalling and reinstalling is a huge pain in the butt.

Apple really needs to deal with this problem. It is not uncommon, and is extremely frustrating.

Hhmm! That's somewhat difficult when you don't mention which relevant articles you've read, nor which, what, or who the usual suspects are.

So at this time all anyone can do is suggest that you check these two Apple articles:

If your computer doesn’t recognise your iPhone, iPad or iPod – Apple Support (UK)

If your Windows PC doesn't recognise your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – Apple Support (UK)
