If you are unable to access your iPhone, it may not be possible for it to back up to iCloud.

In essences you would will be attempting to perform an "automatic" backup to iCloud. That process takes the following steps to accomplish:

iCloud Backup was previously enabled in Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup.
Your iPhone to a power source.
Your iPhone is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
Your iPhone's screen is locked.
