Miracast bootcamp not supported iMac 27" 2020
Earlier on 09-10-2020 Andrew Wotherspoon asked...
Running windows 10 through bootcamp on a new 2020 iMac 27" 3.8GHz Core i7 AMD Pro 5500 XT 8 GB - I am unable to Miracast TO the iMac from my employer's supplied PC laptop as windows on the iMac states Miracast is unsupported. I use this workflow to use the large 27" screen for certain applications and it worked previously on an older 27" iMac.
Does anyone know how I can enable Miracast (through bootcamp and running windows 10) on the iMac? Is it a driver issue? Someone has suggested if I use a USB wifi dongle this may enable the Miracast reception I am looking for, but don't really know enough about Miracast to understand if that would work. Surely someone else has the same problem?
Yes, an Asus AC1200 USB-AC53 Nano Wi-Fi Adapter into a USB-C to USB adapter worked on my 2020 27" iMac Model 20,1 i5-10600 3.30GHz. Before, this:
Windows Key + R
type "cmd" <Enter>
type "netsh wlan show drivers" <Enter>
showed the iMac display was unsupported, with "...Wi-Fi Driver: No" Now, after the USB WiFi adapter was added, that's a "Yes" and it works well.
Before I had an older 2011 iMac with native Miracast support under bootcamp. However the later 2020 iMac did not support Miracast - and all the advice about updating drivers, removing devices, reinstalling drivers and so on, just didn't work for me. If someone has experienced problems with a 2020 iMac not supporting Miracast and then resolved the problem with a new driver, please let us know. Otherwise, in reply to Wotherspoon's original question, yes a new dongle really did the trick.
