Send button gray for all contacts

Can’t send text messages on iPhone. Send button on all contacts is grey.

iPhone 6s, iOS 15

Hi Grannyfrannie,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities! Are you able to send iMessages? Has your iPhone been restarted since noticing this issue? To restart an iPhone 6s, press and hold the side button until the power-off slider appears. Drag the slider and wait about 30 seconds. Press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo to power it back on.

Once back on, you can test to see if this continues.

If this continues after following those steps and you are able to send iMessages ( blue), you'll want to reach out to your carrier since SMS messages ( green) are a carrier feature.

Followed those instructions for restarting my phone, but they didn’t work & the start button for sending texts to my contacts are all still grey. Making this problem even more confusing, when I tried sending an iMessage to a friend with an iPhone, I got a message saying the iMessage couldn’t go through & then I was asked if I wanted to send the message as a text I clicked on YES & that text went through to my contact. All other functions on my phone are working.

Apple support was unable to help. Since all other functions are working they think it’s a cell carrier problem. This phone problem is frustrating & confusing.

This morning my Iphone won't hold a charge & keeps loosing power. Does anyone know if this means the battery's dying or something's wrong with the phone's hardware or software? Thanks.
