Since Catalina 10.15.7 Security Update 2022-003 Time Machine backups fail to complete.

Since Catalina 10.15.7 Security Update 2022-003 at 22:02 on 11April2022, my Time Machine backups have gone from taking 1-2 days to never completing even >5days. How can this be put right please? (I am now having to resort to periodic complete data backups every few days, which is very tiresome)

If you have already followed those steps, including erasing your backup disk and starting over, you might need a new external disk. If this is the case, here’s a few excellent drives sold by Apple:

If you have an iMac (Late 2015) or earlier, or a Mac mini (Late 2014) or earlier, you will also need this cable

I have already tried all that you suggest here thank you kindly Jack. Erasing and starting backup form zero works ok, but this problem coincided exactly with the Catalina security update 2022-003 and I should certainly not be needing to do this after seamless performance beforehand. I suspect this update directly affects TM backups and Apple need to at least consider this.

How does the Belkin USB 3.1 Type A-to-USB Type C cable you cite differ from the one supplied with my LaCie 2TB Rugged USB-C portable HDD ?
