Time Capsule Amber light

I'm now using my Time Capsule's hard drive for time machine backups, no longer as a router or on the network. The green light remained on at all times. However I had to turn off the power to replace a system backup/surge protector. After turning the system power on, everything was back to normal. However the Time Capsule now has a blinking amber light. It is not being used for anything but as an EHD. Why did the light change, and is this a problem. How can I restore the green light?
