Apple a scam or dishonest?

Since the last update it disabled my TrueDepth camera I took it to a Genius Bar they want to charge me $400.00 to fix their screwup. This is not my problem, my Face ID was working fine until this last update. What a scam Apple is. My iPhone is still under warranty and according to their warranty policy it is suppose to cover manufacturing defects. But support is telling me that I have to pay $400.00 to fix their problem. This is a software problem not my problem!
